CNC machining center programming generally involves six types of software.
There are six software options for learning CNC programming: Mastercam, Cimaton, Pro/E, Unigraphics, PowerMill, and CATIA. However, Pro/E and Unigraphics are the most commonly used software in China currently.
Below, Benchi's editor briefly introduces several commonly used CNC machining center programming software and their differences.
1. Mastercam is the most commonly used software in the Pearl River Delta region. It was one of the first to enter mainland China. 70% of CNC masters you see in factories use Mastercam; it integrates drawing and programming. Drawing lines is fastest. Zooming is best.
2. Cimaton is military software from Israel that later entered China. Its toolpath function surpasses Mastercam, compensating for Mastercam's shortcomings. This system is widely used in machinery, electronics, aerospace, scientific research, and mold manufacturing industries.
3. Pro/E is software developed by PTC (Parameter Technology Co., Ltd.), and for over a decade has become one of the world's most popular 3D CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing) systems. It's widely used in electronics, machinery, mold making, industrial design, and toy industries.
4. Unigraphics (UG) entered mainland China much later than Pro/E, but it is also currently one of the world's most advanced CAD/CAE/CAM high-end software for manufacturing. UG software is chosen by many leading manufacturers worldwide, used in industrial design, detailed mechanical design, and engineering manufacturing. Currently, UG has over 17,000 customers globally. Since entering the Chinese market in 1990, UG has developed rapidly, becoming the preferred software in automotive, machinery, computer, home appliance, and mold design fields.
5. PowerMill is a British programming software known for its optimal toolpaths, especially suitable for machining scrap material.
6. CATIA's most notable feature is its powerful surface functions, unmatched by any other 3D CAD software. Almost all airlines in China currently use CATIA. UG is also used, but not as widely. However, small businesses generally cannot afford the genuine software, and pirated versions are also rare in China.
